So after much hype, I went out and bought 3 day Straight by John Frieda. Its reviews were that for a little over 8 dollars it is like a salon treatment and works! It is similar to a keratin Brazilian Hair Treatment without any harsh chemicals.

It worked, my ends have never stayed so Silky Smooth and Shiney!!! The only down side is that it makes hair a little stickey when wet, but not bad at all, and I think I may have used too much.

The product is easy to use just spray on wet/damp hair after washing and blowdry/fatiron straight. It is not slimey going on…I absolutely suggest giving it a try, and it is not permanent so you can go back to your curls after 3 days!!!

Just an update, I used the 3 Day Straight for the second time, this time I anly used about 8-10 squirts and my hair was not sticky at all, straightened out perfectly!!! This will be in my arsenal of hair products so long as I wear my hair straight!!!!! Totally worth the 8 buks!!!

So, it has now taken at least a half hour or more to achieve perfectly straight shiny hair, now how do I bathe without all my efforts going to FRIZZ CITY???? Well I hate to sound like a 1950′s Mom, but invest in a good Shower Cap, you do not have to spend a lot of Money. Sallys beauty supply or any pharmacy sells them.

Put you hair up with a scruntchie or smooth elastic and then place the cap over your locks, tuck in any stray hairs, make sure the nape of the neck is also well covered. You should be fairly dry after your shower or bath.

You can touch up any hair that got wet with blow dryer and flat-iron and you should be good to go!!

Firstly, as a curly head, due to the shape of our follicle our hair almost always Looks dryer that Straight hair, so we need to take the extra step to ensure our hair glistens just like our straight hair counter parts..

always work the hair and products in a smoothing down the hair shaft direction

that means make sure before you get out of the shower to let the water glide from your scalp to the ends of your hair

the same with hair styling products, you want to add them and use them to style the hair using the same downward smoothing technique, this is very important, because in order for hair to SHine- it needs to Reflect Light and it can not do this on a non smooth/ slick surface… imagine an ice skating ring right after the Zamboni glides on it how shiny it looks compared to when its been scuffed up by the skates…

Brush your hair, with a Mason Pierson type brush… I know to a curly head that means frizz, but it is very important. It distributes the natural hair oils from the scalp to the ends adding sheen. If you want to avoid the frizz- do this on the occasions that you have straightened your hair, it makes brushing easier as well as eliminating any Frizz from the brushing.

Glossing Treatments under the right supervision can also do wonders, its like having a clear coat of nail polish on your hair, making it Super Shiny

Enjoy, Glisten away…

to restyle, just comb it to detangle and then go over with a high quality flat-iron

Ok, now if you are finding a layer of build up from product use on your scalp that is not easily coming off while scrubbing with conditioner in the shower, it is time to use something a bit more clarifying.

Your scalp is like your face, so it needs an exfoliating Facial every so often. Depending on the level of build up. I would first try a moistururizing shampoo, like Devachans NO POO, but if you really need something to get into the follicle, you can, on an occasional basis, try either a clarifying shampoo, like Neutragena, or a head and shoulders moisturizing shampoo.

When using any of these heavy duty shampoos, remember to concentrate on the scalp- not the hair itself- Leave it on your scalp for about 5 min to feel the tingles. To minimize any drying effects, and to apply a Deep Moisturizing treatment to the hair avoiding the scalp.

Do Not do this all the time, only as needed, if you scratch your scalp and see white residue or white dandruffy type build up after the hair is styled..Good Luck

Step 1 Do Not Panic

Step 2 Grab a Jar of Peanut Butter any Nut Butter will do

Step 3 Place a small amount of peanut butter on gummed hair and slowly work the gum out, the peanut butter will dissolve the gum and allow it to exit hair without having to cut any….good luck, and hopefully child will have learned a lesson

Ok, I know every curly head and curly tots parents has asked themselves this very same question, specially when struggling with the curls or probably Frizz.

It was just explained to me very simply in another blog, pretty much it is all Genetic.

Curls are formed when the hair is actually growing and passing through the hair follicle. A curly hair strand will be created when the follicle is oval, whereas a straight hair will be created from a round hair follicle.

Think of ribbon, it is straight, but to curl it you put it with a scissor on one side–creating an uneaven pull or Oval motion.

I hope this makes as much sense to everyone as it finally did for me after 33 years…..

This is actally not as simple as it may seem, considering all the hair salons around, even the ones specializing in Kids Hair. Firstly, its important to understand that curly hair does not need to be cut as frequently as other hair types, I would rather go without a cut for my child, or myself, than go to someone with no curly experience or bad cutting skills.

Firstly always ask a parent of a child’s hair that you like, where they go. Curls are like a secret club, and Everyone wants to share tales, don’t be embarrassed to ask.

Second, research curly hair salons in your area, within a few reasonable driving hours, Personally I have flown to a stylist I love, but I’m a little over the top, and like to stick with what works.

I can recommend a few Top places, feel free to email me or comment, if you need further suggestions

In New York, hands down, the only place to go is Devachan, the only stylist I swear by is Anna, but they are all excellent.

In DC, Fiddleheads

In Winchester VA, Manhattan Beauty Lounge, only Maria/the owner, she is fabulous

Warning, DO NOT USE KIDS CUTS, I ONLY HAVE HAD VERY BAAADDDD Experiences!!!!! (Even the one On Madison Avenue in Manhattan)

Good Luck!!!

TO KEEP HAIR OUT OF FACE WHILE ITS DRYING

a Small Baby Clip or salon type clip work well

Simply, very gently, do not comb the hair just sweep it to the side of face and tie back with a baby clip- make sure to use one that can come out easily and does not FRIZZ up the hair, if you are worried, you can coat the clip with some gel prior to placing.

You can also use a head band, these work well too, just do not comb the band through the hair, simply put it in place to hold curls back, then when hair is dry, you can take out the clips or band or leave them in
